Bollschweiler Family Personal Histories

One of the main objectives of this site is to help Bollschweiler family members get to know each other and their history. Therefore on this page I am posting short autobiographies submitted by family members to aid in this task. I'll begin with my own short autobiography and hopefully you will wish to do the same.

Amy Thatcher Ogilvie
AmyO@cc.usu.edu

I, Amy T. Ogilvie, am the oldest daughter of Howard F. Thatcher, he is the oldest son of Emilie Fuhriman Thatcher. Emilie (who was named after her grandmother Emilie Bollschweiler, wife of Jacob Fredrich) is the oldest daughter of Carolina Bollschweiler Fuhriman, Jacob Fredrich Bollschweiler's oldest daughter.

I was born in Logan, Utah in 1976 to Howard and Janis Thatcher. I have lived in Logan all my life except for 2 years when my husband Russ and I lived in Nampa, Idaho. I have 3 younger sisters. Their names are, Nancy, Joanna, and Melinda. I was married to Russell Ogilvie in October of 1995 in Logan LDS Temple. We have 4 beautiful children, Morgan, Britton, Paige and Darien.

I have a great passion for history and social science. I ached to be able to visit Europe for so long and the Meeting 2000 in Germany finally gave us a great excuse to go. It was an opportunity I couldn't miss. The chance to see the homeland of my ancestors, meet distant relatives and learn the history of the Bollschweiler side of my family was so exciting!

I am currently a full-time wife and mother and part-time student at Utah State University. I am majoring in History (with emphasis in the History of Europe) and pondering minors in Anthropology, Latin and Folklore.

Russ was born in Provo, Utah in 1974 to Gary and Edith Ogilvie. He has 2 sisters and 3 brothers. He grew up in Lake Town and West Valley, Utah. In 1991 his family moved to Logan. He was active in Track and Field in High School and took 5 AP classes and passed all 5 tests. He served a LDS mission in Madrid, Spain from 1993 to 1995. Russell graduated in 2005 with a degree in computer science and is currently working at the USU Herbarium.

Jo Anne Bollschweiler Parkes
joken@redrock.net

I am the eldest daughter of Clayton Bollschweiler and Lenore Potter. I was born in Salt Lake City on February 1, 1931. My father, Clayton is the eldest son of Gustave Bollschweiler and Alvina Breyhan. Gustave is the twin of Albert and son of Jacob Fredrich.
On February 7, 1949, I married Kenneth Richard Parkes. We had four children...Steven Richard - August 14, 1951; Diana Lee - February 6, 1954; Linda Sue - July 17, 1955; and Jon Edward - October 13, 1960. All are married and have given us 10 grandchildren.
I have been employed during my working career as a secretary. Ken's employment was in the Aircraft and missile industry and for the US Government. We have lived many places due to Ken's employment, including Seattle, WN., California, and Florida at the Rocket Base. Our most memorable place we were fortunate to live was the five years spent in Germany working for the Army and US school system in Darmstadt. We were able to travel all over Europe, Russia, Egypt, Israel, Czechoslvakia, Yugoslavia, Greece and most countries in between. It was a wonderful experience and one we could never duplicate without living abroad.

We returned to the United States in 1986 and moved to Ivins, Utah (near St. George) in 1988 when Ken retired. We love living in Southern Utah with its beautiful scenery of red mountains and red sand.

I had the opportunity to study painting, both oil and watercolor while in Germany which fulfilled a great desire. I now teach watercolor painting in my home studio and have twelve students at this time. Ken and I do volunteer work in the community which we both enjoy.
We are excited to meet our kin at the upcoming Bollschweiler Reunion and invite everyone to come see us in our special part of the world.
